September 2023
What a difference to this time last year. Dead heading is important to continue the supply of flowers into the autumn.
Do not forget all material cut back can be used in the compost heap. Keep an eye out for slugs and snails who enjoy the moist ground.
Tomatoes seem to have done well, but watch out now for late blight. Potatoes can be planted for Christmas. These are best grown in large tubs or pots. You could even grow quick growing carrots in pots as well
Last year it was dry looking lawns, this its lush green ones. So keep up with the mowing. Autumn feed will do well when the soil is moist. If you decide to have a wild area next year you could leave the grass long in those areas.
Once herbaceous plants have finished flowering leave them alone. We do not need to tidy up these areas until the spring. Insects, frogs and toads can enjoy the areas through the winter and be protected.
It will soon be time to look out next years seed lists. Hope you made a list of what did well this year for you
